UX lead on Spark's IoT platform for New Zealand businesses: information architecture, wireframes and designs, and later React UI integration.

Design and build of Spark's Internet of Things web application.

## The brief

Spark built an application for New Zealand businesses to manage their IoT sensors, track use and get alerts based on parameters they choose.

## My role

I built the information architecture, wireframes and designs, following Spark's style guide. Towards the end of the project I helped with UI development and integrating the React-based UI components.

The project started a few weeks before lockdown and ran remotely, with team members in Wellington and Auckland.

## What I did

We started with a team-wide workshop to learn the requirements. Mapping the user journeys together gave us a full itemised backlog.

From that first workshop we moved straight into a basic sitemap and wireframes, with the whole team involved. We decided early to design mobile-first, which kept us focused on the most important parts of the app.

The wireframes became an interactive click-through prototype in InVision. The product owner and other stakeholders could use the app as if it were already built, and their feedback went back into the design.

Full UX design wasn't in scope for this phase, but towards the end we applied Spark's branding to a couple of screens. In the last sprint I led applying the branding across the whole application, and by the end every screen was branded.

## How it was built

The application was built with Next.js and ran on Microsoft Azure. I designed in Sketch and built the click-throughs in InVision. When I joined the development team near the end, I committed code changes directly to the repository, built with Azure pipelines.
